Whole wheat flour consists of wheat in its natural, unrefined form.
The word ‘whole’ means that the bran, germ and endosperm of the wheat grains are left intact.

Bran: The bran is the outer layer of the wheat grain. It is tough, full of fiber and protect the insides of the grain.
Endosperm: The wheat grain consists mostly of the endosperm. The endosperm consists of starch and protein. This is the only layer of the grain which is used for white bread.
Germ: The reproductive kernel of the grain. It contains minerals, vitamins and oils.

What is the difference between whole wheat flour and normal flour?

Whole wheat flour is made of entire grains like we mentioned earlier. This means that whole wheat has a whole lot of fiber, oils and minerals. Normal flour on the other hand only has the endosperm part of the grain, it does not have the fiburous bran or vitamin and oil rich germ.
